EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT METAL ROOFS!
Hiring a new metal roofing contractor can be daunting, which is why we’ve compiled a list of some of the most common questions we get from our new clients. If your question isn’t answered, please feel free to get in touch and we will help you as much as we can.
By far the most common question we get. No, modern day metal roofs are not loud when it rains. Most people are thinking of an old barn when they think of noisy metal roofs and that is just not how modern day metal roofs are installed. At most there maybe a 5% noise increase during a torrential downpour.
In most cases, no. We have installed over 2,000 metal roofs and only have had 3-4 customers complain about their phone signal. We advised customers to purchase and install a booster antenna and all was well again.
In short – no. Actually I have found the opposite to be true as long as a few things have been thought about prior to your metal roof install. Is the color of your roof one that is typically considered attractive? Does the style of the metal roof you are installing match the style of the home you are installing it on? Is the company you are having install your roof a quality company that is backed with years of experience?
In short – yes. We have over 2,000 locally installed metal roofs and roughly 95% of them have been installed over shingles. You will need to check with your local building department though. Some towns allow you to install over 2 layers of shingles while some just allow you to install over 1 layer. You always want to check the integrity of the decking underneath the existing shingles to make sure nothing is rotten before installing your metal roof.
The cost of a metal roof can be more than a traditional shingle roof. While many people look at that as a disadvantage you also have to keep in mind that metal roofs are lasting twice as long as a regular shingle roof. Metal roofs can also be more difficult to get around on if you need to get on your roof to maintain things or get on your roof to install things such as Christmas lights.
This is a very difficult question to answer briefly but I will try. Homes are all shapes and sizes; with that comes all kinds of different prices. Rule of thumb, exposed fastener metal roof prices will be very close to shingle roof prices (metal has double the lifespan). Concealed fastener metal roofs/standing seam roofs can vary from 25% more to even twice as much more depending on complexity and difficulty of the roof.
Metal roofs are smooth and have no granules like shingles. This can result in snow and ice sliding off your roof in the winter. We sell a snow/ice rail that can help limit this. Metal roofs can also be more difficult to get on and move around your metal roof should you ever need to.
Yes, all the metal we use is Energy Star rated.
